Our second annual art exhibit/sale/competition ~ now known as "Artscape | An Evening of Art & Wine" taking place on Friday, June 13 ~ the evening before the Leland Wine and Food Festival, at Leland's Old Art Building ~ was well attended, and a great pre-festival celebration of our amazing local artists and wineries!
We were delighted to have 58 pieces of art in the exhibit, from twenty-one Northern Michigan artists. Also, this year's Wine Fest poster artist, Kris Love, was on hand to sign the 2014 posters. The evening included appetizers provided by local restaurants, flagship wines from our local wineries that provided wine for Wine Fest, and piano entertainment by Rick Lahmann and his father, Richard L. Lahmann.
Our art show jurors, Northern Michigan artists Richard Kooyman and Brenda J. Clark, had a difficult time selecting the winner, amongst such wonderful options, but we are pleased to announce that they selected Charles Murphy's "River Mouth" (above) to be the art for the 2015 Leland Wine and Food Festival poster! Charles incorporated actual sand and created the Fishtown buildings from driftwood ~ both gathered from Van's Beach in Leland. Congratulations also go out to our Peoples' Choice winner ~ Mary Fuscaldo's "Along North Lake Leelanau." Mary's beautiful pastel art garnered the most votes from our Artscape attendees.
Thank you to the artists, wineries, restaurants, musicians, volunteers and guests ~ it was a wonderful evening. We hope to see you all again at next year's celebration!
