Fishtown Preservation

Fishtown is a historic district comprised of weathered fishing shanties, smokehouses, overhanging docks, commercial fishing vessels and charter boats along the Leland River, where it feeds into Lake Michigan. Visitors can enjoy the shanty shops and eateries of this working waterfront April-October, though Fishtown itself is open 365 days a year. Many generations have formed a lasting bond with Fishtown, enjoying its authentic and continued connection to Great Lakes commercial fishing and maritime traditions. This was manifested more than 10-years ago when a handful of locals had the foresight to create Fishtown Preservation – a not-for-profit organization that thru community support purchased Fishtown’s core historic elements and now maintains, preserves and manages this historic site. We welcome you to stop by the new Fishtown Welcome Center spring through fall, and to visit our website anytime – to see how you can help keep Fishtown thriving for future generations!
