Leland Township Fire & Rescue serves the residents and visitors of the community from two fire stations, with 27 dedicated Fire and EMS personnel. The membership of the department is made up of a combination of 6 full-time, and 22 part-time, paid on-call personnel – providing 24 hour per day coverage – operating from two Station locations: 201 S Grand Avenue, Leland and 358 W Main Street, Lake Leelanau.

North Manitou Light Keepers (NMLK) is a team of stewards dedicated to rehabilitating, maintaining, and appreciating the North Manitou Shoal Light. This offshore lighthouse, known locally as “The Crib,” is an important piece of Lake Michigan maritime history. The lighthouse was completed in 1935 to mark the shoal off the southern tip of North Manitou Island for ships navigating the Manitou Passage. In 1980 the light and fog signal were automated and remain an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. NMLK purchased the structure in 2016 to stop further deterioration, restore it to its former glory, and make it available to the public for viewing and appreciation.

With over 4,000 donors annually backing us, the Conservancy is ensuring that Leelanau natural lands and farmland will endure for future generations.
