The North Manitou Shoal Light is an offshore lighthouse in Leelanau County, Michigan. It sits one mile offshore of North Manitou Island, and eight miles from Leland, Michigan. The lighthouse is a steel structure that stands on a foundation made of a “crib” embedded into the lake floor that is filled with concrete and rock. Given its construction design, the lighthouse is known locally as “The Crib”.
Many pass by The Crib on their way to visit the Manitou Islands, and have expressed a desire to see it rehabilitated. Its restoration will be a challenging task and effort. Contact us to get involved!

Our Mission: Conserving the Land, Water and Scenic Character of Leelanau County. In 1988 the Leelanau Conservancy opened its doors with a big dream and a small group of individuals dedicated to the idea that the Leelanau Peninsula is a place that deserved our best efforts to protect its unique landscapes. Since then, we have launched a farmland preservation program, established a renowned water-quality monitoring program and created 23 Natural Areas. Stunning views, sensitive wetlands, and working farms have been forever protected. With over 4,000 donors annually backing us, the Conservancy is ensuring that Leelanau natural lands and farmland will endure for future generations.
For over a century, St. Mary School has had an outstanding tradition of providing quality, God-centered education to young people throughout the Leelanau Peninsula. The school enjoys an extremely positive image in the community and a source of great pride to both current students and alumni. St. Mary's is a preschool-12th grade Catholic school dedicated to the development of young men and women through Christian values in every aspect of their lives; family, class/lunchroom, athletic practices/games, and extra-curricular activities. 98% of St. Mary’s graduates attend college, 1% select armed-forces and 1% choose trade schools.
